Bats, Stolen Beer, and Fake IDs

Jan. 31 - time unknown: An 18-year-old woman was arrested on charges of shoplifting after she took an 18 pack of beer from a store and ran out of the store without paying for it.
Feb. 1 - time unknown: An 18-year-old male student was arrested on charges of knowingly possessing a fictitious license. The man was called into the police station for questioning after his wallet was found and returned to the front desk of a dorm. It was discovered the wallet contained three different driver's licenses. One of the licenses belonged to the student, another to his brother, and the third to a 24-year-old Florida man. The student said his brother had left his ID at their parents' home and the student was planning on returning it to him. He said he found the Florida license outside a store on Mill Avenue, approximately a week and a half ago. The student was issued a citation and released.

Jan. 31 - 11 a.m. - 6 p.m.: A 19-year-old female student reported $650 missing from her bank account. The student said she had used her Visa ATM card to withdraw $20, and the receipt said she had a negative balance in her account. Upon calling her bank, she learned her account had been used to pay Consumers Energy, rent and cable bills. The student lives on campus and does not pay rent, electricity or cable bills. The incident is still under investigation
Feb. 5 - 10:30 a.m.: An 18-year-old male student reported his $250 T-Mobile Sidekick III missing from a Rather Hall bathroom. The student said he had left the phone on the toilet paper dispenser when he left, but returned shortly after he realized it was missing, and found a man leaving the stall he had been using. When he looked in the stall, the Sidekick phone was missing. The suspect is described as a heavy-set 6-foot-tall male, about 18 years old, wearing a black ski hat, black clothing and a black coat. The student said he has seen the man before and doesn't believe he's a student.

Feb. 5 - 11:00 a.m.: A staff member reported that a garage door motor caught on fire at Holuba Hall. The fire department was dispatched. The fire extinguished itself prior to the arrival of the fire company and was confined to the motor. A damage estimate was not immediately available.
Feb. 6 - 10:24 p.m.: An East Halls Residence Life Coordinator reported a bat had been located in the stair tower of Pinchot Hall. The animal was located, apprehended, and released outside.
