Austin Peay Officials Issue Alert After Ex-Student Made Threats

Campus on Alert Because of Former Student

Austin Peay State University, located in Clarksville, Tennessee, issued a campus alert on Friday because of threats phoned in by a "disgruntled former student."

Mariah Collier, who was not successful in her attempt to earn a graduate degree from the university, had previously been officially banned from campus after she made threats in 2002.

Ms Collier called APSU's campus newspaper, and "stated her frustration with having been banned from campus and said if she had been a violent person, APSU might have experienced a similar shooting as what happened in Blacksburg, Va" reported the The Leaf-Chronical.

She also called several government agencies and local officials and made threats.

Collier was a sporadicly enrolled at APSU for more than a decade until she was banned in 2002. She is only allowed on campus if she receives special permission from the Campus Police Chief, and even then she would be escorted by a police officer.

While the initial threat was made from a Florida phone number, she was later located in Nashville by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.
