Baltimore Zoning Board Kicks Phi Psi Chapter From House

Neighbors Win Fraternity Fight

Johns Hopkins University's chapter of Phi Kappa Psi fraternity will have to look for a new home after a Baltimore zoning board denied their request to keep their upscale-neighborhood house.

Last week, residents of the neighborhood where the Phi Psi house lived showed up in droves to testify against the frat, complaining of noise, trash, drinking and other normal frat boy behavior they considered to be annoying.

After about an hour of listening to the complaints, the zoning board denied the fraternity's request to stay.

“It’s like people moving next to an airport and complaining about noise,” the fraternity's attorney said after the decision. Phi Kappa Psi had owned the house since 1961. The frat can appeal the decision to another Baltimore court for judicial review, but the brothers have not yet made their intentions public.
