Ex-Gannon Girl Charged with Making Massacre Threat
The Frat Boy News daily campus police report for Friday:
Gannon University (compiled by WHP-CBS)
A former Gannon University student is in the Erie County Prison this morning, charged with making a not-so-funny wake up call to a freshman friend who attends the school.
Nineteen-year-old Valerie Cantu is being held on charges of making terroristic threats and harassment by communication.
Police say she called the friend about one o'clock yesterday morning and repeatedly told the friend not to go to class because there was going to be a massacre -- which authorities took to be a reference to the Virginia Tech shootings last week.
Erie police say Cantu apparently meant the call to be a prank, but the victim and campus officials didn't take it that way.
Campus police mobilized and the school sent e-mail warnings to students about the threat before police traced it to Cantu about nine hours later. Classes weren't canceled.
It's not clear if Cantu has an attorney.
