Northwestern Kappa Alpha Psi Chapter Celebrates 90 Years

Fraternity Celebrates 90 Years

Kappa Alpha Psi celebrated its 90th anniversary at Northwestern University this weekend. The fraternity was established April 21, 1917.

While the fraternity was established in 1917, it owes its existence today to alumni Dan Davis, a 1969 graduate.

When Davis was a freshmen, the Northwestern University chapter had just closed its doors. Recruitment was low, as there were very few black men enrolled at NU at the time.

Davis took it upon himself to restart the chapter, and pledged the Alpha Rho chapter, also based in Chicago. When he arrived on NU Campus he recruited 12 new members, saving the Theta chapter of the historically black fraternity.
