Bush Commences St. Vincent Graduation
After Months of Controversy, Bush's Speech PraisedPresident George W. Bush asked students to live the lessons of public service they learned in their time at St. Vincent College when he gave the commencement address to the graduating class Friday.
"Here at St. Vincent College, service outside the classroom is as important as what's learned inside the classroom," Bush said. "The challenge for you is to keep this up as you begin your new careers, your new families and your new lives."
Bush's stay at St. Vincent College in Latrobe, Pa., was very short. He was only in town for a little over an hour and a half before he took off in a helicopter. Some students protested the choice of the controversial President to make their commencement speech, and some even showed up with signs when he arrived.
"As your commander in chief, I salute you for your service, and I ask almighty God to keep you close as you keep our nation safe," the President said in his 18-minute address to the students.
