The State College Police Department, Pennsylvania State Police, and Penn State University Police have charged Antonio Alexander Jr., 28, of 424 Waupelani Drive, State College, with six counts of illegal sales of cocaine, three counts of possession of cocaine, and one count of attempted unlawful possession of a handgun by a convicted felon.
The investigation began about eight months ago as part of a larger investigation into cocaine sales in Centre County. In criminal complaints filed before Magisterial District Judge Jonathan D. Grine, police allege that, in April 2007, Alexander sold substantial amounts of cocaine to an undercover police officer. During the course of these undercover buys, the defendant began to negotiate with the undercover officer to trade cocaine for handguns.
On May 10, the defendant made arrangements with the undercover officer to sell two ounces of cocaine for $2,100 and to trade additional cocaine for a 9mm handgun. Officers from the three participating departments arrested the defendant near his apartment at about 7:00pm on May 10th. There were no injuries. No handguns were ever delivered to the defendant. Under Pennsylvania law, persons convicted of certain crimes are prohibited from owning firearms.
The defendant was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Grine and placed in the Centre County Correctional Facility on $265,000 bail. His hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, May 16th, in Centre County Court.
