Spider-Man Sets New Box Office Record

'Spider-Man 3' Shatters U.S. Box Office Records

The latest edition of the many comic book-themed movies, 'Spider-Man 3,' set a new box office record for an opening weekend by bringing in about $148 million in just three days.

Spidey eclipsed the last record set by last year's 'Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest' by about $13 million. 'Spider-Man 3' brought in almost $60 million on Friday alone.

The movie is the third installment in the Spider-Man saga, starring Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker, a.k.a. Spidey, and Kirsten Dunst as Mary-Jane Watson. Spider-man takes on several new villians in the movie, including Venom and Sandman.
