It was no laughing matter for actor and University of Texas graduate Owen Wilson over the weekend.
The big-screen funnyman was hospitalized just after noon on Sunday after Santa Monica police officers responded to a medical aid call at the actor's home. The reason for and severity of his hospitalization has not been disclosed, though tabloid reports have been swirling that the actor attempted to commit suicide.
"I respectfully ask that the media allow me to receive care and heal in private during this difficult time," Wilson said in a statement released through his publicist, Ina Treciokas.
Cynthia Harding, a spokeswoman for Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, confirmed that Wilson had been transferred to the facility late Sunday night after first checking into St. John's Health Center and that he is currently "in good condition."While the actor's reps have yet to comment on the nature of the hospitalization, the 38-year-old blond thesp's brothers, Luke and Andrew Wilson, along with his parents, were all spotted at Cedars-Sinai Sunday night.
The Santa Monica Police Department issued a statement over the weekend stating simply that Santa Monica Fire Department paramedics answered a "medical aid call" at 12:10 p.m. Sunday at a Santa Monica home and that "a person was transported to a local hospital where they are being treated."
The actual 911 call of the incident has not been released.
