Armed Robbery Reported Near East Carolina

With just three days into the semester at East Carolina University the Off-Campus Police Department is already reporting an armed robbery.

It happened early Saturday morning at the intersection of 12th and Forbes Streets in Greenville. The report states, a non student was approached by two men, one with a handgun.

Both men, who were wearing bandanas on their heads, demanded the victim's wallet and cell phone.

The ECU Police Department and Safe Ride provide escorts during night time hours and should be called if you have safety concerns of getting to locations on or off campus.

East Carolina Chi Phi Chapter Suspended

ECU Fraternity Suspended for Alcohol Citations

East Carolina University's chapter of Chi Phi fraternity was suspended after at least 60 students were given alcohol citations last week at a party.

"East Carolina takes seriously underage drinking, whether or not the students are involved with Greek life," Corey King, an ECU administrator told a local TV station.. "Our students must understand that underage drinking has consequences."

The fraternity won't be allowed to take part in rush until after a investigation by the university concludes. Chi Phi was also suspended at the campus last February after its national organization questioned its practices with new members.

The chapter has about 33 members, a report said.
