Quarterbacking Sigma Nu

Frat Guy of the Week: Sigma Nu's Eli Manning

Long before he was tossing passes to NFL wide receivers, New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning was a brother of Sigma Nu while attending the University of Mississippi.

Born in New Orleans, Manning followed in his father Archie's footsteps and attended Ole Miss. While at the university and playing quarterback for the Rebels, Manning joined the same fraternity as his father, Sigma Nu.

Constantly cast in the shadow of his Super-Bowl-winning older brother, Peyton, Eli has begun to make a name for himself in the NFL and shown traits of a leader in the Giants locker room.

At Ole Miss, Manning tied or broke 47 of the university's football records and led the team to a 10-3 record in his senior season. For his athletic performance, Manning was named Sigma Nu athlete of the year in 2001 and 2003.

Eli entered the 2004 NFL draft and was taken by the San Diego Chargers with the top overall pick. The same day, the Chargers dealt Manning to the Giants for North Carolina State quarterback Philip Rivers and a third-round pick.

Manning spent his first season under the wing of veteran quarterback Kurt Warner before taking the reigns for the Giants, where he remains today as their starter.

Eli's up-and-down play has led the Giants to an 8-4 record in the 2007 campaign - good enough for second place in the division behind the Dallas Cowboys and in position for a return trip to the playoffs.
