Hooters Expels 'Schoolgirls'

The popular "School Girls Night" at a Hooters restaurant in Harrisburg, Pa., was suspended last week following a wave of complaints from local townspeople, questioning the ethics and morality of such an event in their community.

Mostly due to the outrage caused by a sign advertising the event, the restaurant's management decided to cancel last week's edition. Normally, Hooters waitresses serve their famous chicken wings and hamburgers dressed in school girl uniforms of the Cathloic elementary variety.

The Harrisburg Hooters is located near many local campuses, including Dickinson College, Messiah College, Shippensburg University, as well as branches of Temple University, Widener University and Penn State.

"The schoolgirl theme is popular everywhere," a 26-year old woman who visits Hooters once a week to the Harrisburg Patriot-News. "Hollywood, porn (whether you agree with it or not) and even music videos (a la Britney Spears) have all maximized on this theme.

The manager of a Hooters restaurant in State College, Pa., near Penn State's main campus told the newspaper they don't plan on putting an end to the popular event anytime soon.

"To eradicate it in one place won't do any good," she continued. "If a man has the mental capacity and desire to violate an underage girl, he will do so no matter what the girls at Hooters are wearing that day."

Hooters had 435 locations in 46 states, as well as restaurants in other countries.

Guns Found at Bar Near Temple

A narcotics bust brought police to a bar near the Temple University campus last Friday night, and while the undercover agents found some drugs, the real shock was the sound of guns hitting the floor.

Police said they found seven handguns inside Lamer's Inn and all but one of them was found on the floor.

"All you hear was the sound of metal clanking on the floor," Lt. Charles Green of the city's Narcotics Unit said, adding "I mean you go into a bar and to have this many weapons. It's scary. It's absolutely frightening."

Although it might be particularly frightening for Temple students because the bar is just few feet from the campus, some students seemed unconcerned.

Temple student Mouna Moussa said her mom would come and get her from the school if she knew about the danger, but that she feels safe on campus. Still, she said, "It's depressing at the same time."

It seems the cold months of winter have brought out some of the creeps living in some college towns, particularly those at Colorado and Temple.

Police at the University of Colorado have issued an alert after a man entered several residence halls and sexually assaulted a few different girls last week. "Between the hours of 3 and 4 a.m. on Friday an unknown male entered rooms in Baker, Libby and Smith Halls on campus, reportedly seeking a place to 'crash' as the male stated that he was 'drunk' and looking for 'a place to sleep," a campus release at the university said.

"In one of the cases, the male crawled into bed with a female and fondled her before the victim's roommate was able to force the male from the room," the release continued. "A number of rooms were entered on this evening and others reported the male trying to enter more rooms in these buildings."

At Temple University, police are investigating three potentially related assault cases involving three female students. During the first reported incident, a man asked a girl to borrow her cell phone. The offender then forced her to the ground and unzipped his pants before unsuccessfully attempting to steal her purse.

Another report said a man pulled a knife on a girl, asking for her purse and phone. He groped her and left. In the third report, a female student said that a man asked to use her cell phone and, when she refused, he grabbed her and repeatedly asked for a hug. Eventually the offender fled, only taking the her cell phone.

Students at these colleges were advised by police to take extra precautions to avoid future incident. "Residents should not let anyone into secure living areas without knowing for certain that the person belongs in that area," said Colorado police. "Residents should also ensure that their individual room doors are locked at all times," they added.
