Phi Delts Awarded $127K for Alleged Hazing Damages

UI Fraternity Awarded More than $127,000 in Lawsuit

Score one for the good guys! Back in 2002, a pledge for Phi Delta Theta at the University of Iowa wore a wire and allegedly recorded a hazing incident. However, the University eventually dropped the hazing charges and the chapter was re-instated in 2004. Unfortunately the damage was done and the chapter closed shop in 2005 due to low membership.

The fraternity did what it should have, it sued! The courts ruled the tape was illegality obtained, and that the frat suffered financially because of it.The fraternity won, to the tune of more than $127,000 from the University, the state, and the school official who lead the investigation.

You gotta love it.
