More Sig Tau's in Trouble
Hazing Charges Filed
Two brothers of Stephen F. Austin's Sigma Tau Gamma chapter were arrested Friday, while another 4 remain under investigation.
Hazing charges stemmed from an October incident which was reported by a pledge's father. Description of the said hazing has not been released.
Derek Johnson and Michael Issacson were charged, police said. Over a decade ago, the fraternity faced similar hazing charges, and developed a zero-tolerance policy towards the act, as described on their web site:
"Any practice that purports to achieve a good end, but which relies upon activities that violate the ideals as expressed in our principles is not a valid tradition. It will eventually destroy our brotherhood. The term tradition can never be legitimately used to defend behavior that is immoral, illegal or unwise. For example, where hazing exists it is defended as a tradition. However, it is not a valid tradition. It is not valid because it violates our principles, our creed, our code of conduct, and our governing documents. It is not valid because it violates civil law and every accepted moral code. It is not valid because our founders never embraced it. There is no place for such practices in Sigma Tau Gamma."
Brothers offered no comments on their current situation. Tradition or no tradition, the charges are charges guys.
