UC Davis' Sigma Chi Chapter Re-raises Stolen Money
Fraternity Re-raises Donation Money Stolen From House
As reported by UC Davis' California Aggie:
The Sigma Chi Omega fraternity will present a $5,000 check to the Children's Miracle Network on Friday morning. Sigma Chi has been fundraising for the cause since last May, when $1,500 intended as a donation to the Children's Miracle Network was stolen from the chapter president's bedroom.
Andy Smith, the president of Sigma Chi's UC Davis chapter, said the police have not made any arrests in connection with the theft and have not spoken to the fraternity since last spring. He said Sigma Chi chose to focus its energy on re-raising the money.
"It became very clear early on that we wouldn't be able to find out who was responsible for this shameful act. Instead of dwelling on who was responsible, we decided to be proactive and fix the situation by raising the money back," Smith said.
"We were faced with an awful situation, but we made our best effort to stay positive. The way we see it, as a result of the robbery, the Children's Miracle Network is receiving more money than it would have had the money never been stolen," Smith said.
