Nevada Man Arrested for Campus Cell Phone Threat Scare
UNR Treat Suspect Ran in 2006 Nevada Election
Police at the University of Nevada in Reno were forced to shutdown campus Thursday night after a former candidate for public office made terroristic threats to his family via cell phone text messages.
Pictures of the suspect, Michael Sherriff, were posted around campus after the threats and students were told to alert police if they saw him on university grounds.
In text messages, Sherriff told his family that Virginia Tech-killer Cho Seung-Hui was his hero. He also said the people were disrespecting the United States military, in which he served.
Sherriff lost the race for a seat on the Nevada Legislature in 2006. Police have since taken the man into custody, after he attempted to flee from them.
