South Dakota State Frats Helping Fire Victims
Fire Destroys Frat House
A number of Greek organizations at South Dakota State University have reached out to help a fraternity that had their house destroyed by a fire.
Sigma Phi Delta's house burned to ashes March 31, leaving the brothers without a place to live for the remainder of the academic year. The fire was believed to have started from a burning couch on their front porch, reports said.
South Dakota State's Interfraternity Council held an emergency meeting to see how they could help. The house, where 7 brothers lived, is being repaired and renovated and they hope to move back in as soon as next fall.
"We want to help out our fellow fraternities. They are us," said Kyle Gustafson, a student. The university's other frats are installing fire safety alarms and making sure they have plans in case of a similar type of emergency.
"This was definitely a wake-up call; it could happen to anyone," said Peter Beck, the president of Alpha Gamma Rho.
