After the most costly and devastating campus shooting in American history, the number of students dead after an unknown gunman opened fire on helpless students Monday at Virginia Tech has reached 33 as of early Tuesday morning.
Thirty-three people lost their lives in shootings Monday morning in a campus dorm and classroom building. Police have not yet released the names of the victims to media or the killer's identity or motive.
Virginia Tech has canceled all classes until further notice and set up counseling stations around campus to help alleviate the tragic and unnecessary shootings. The first shooting happened around 7:15 this morning, and continued about two hours later when the shooter opened fire in an engineering classroom.
Bomb threats shook up the campus last week and police have not yet said if the events are related. In wake of the tragedy, colleges around the country have taken a second look at their security and public safety to help deter future events of the such from occurring.
