Fake Frat's Real Latino-Bashing Party Faces Real Criticism
Delaware Frat's Party Called Offensive
A group of Latino students at the University of Delaware have had enough with an honors fraternity who help a Cinco de Mayo party mocking Spanish heritage.
Pictures from a weekend party hosted by honors fraternity Phi Sigma Pi showed up on Facebook this week. In the photos, students were said to have been dressed as farmers and gardeners with name tags with historically Latino names like "Pedro," "Jaun," and "Jose" on their shirts.
Other pictures showed students with racial slurs written on their backs
"It's throwing this message at me that Mexicans are drunk, they indulge in alcohol or are sexually promiscuous," said the Latino group's student adviser.
Members of the honors fraternity said the party and the costumes were not meant to be malicious toward Latinos.
