Rash of Crimes at Youngstown State Leaves Students Questioning Safety

YSU Reacts to String oc Campus Crimes

After a wave of recent crime near and on campus, students at Youngstown State University have begun questioning whether they are safe at the Ohio college.

In the wake of a drive-by shooting and a robbery of a nearby video store, many students feel unsafe at the university. It is located in the downtown area of a rundown city with a high crime rate.

"My big thing is I never go anywhere by myself, especially after dark," Christa Welch, a YSU student said.

"My boyfriend won't let me walk to my car alone. He's been walking with me every night," Melissa Cardon, a freshman. Student have suggested an increased security force with more lights and cameras to deter possible criminal activity.
