A 21-year-old Bryan man remained in jail Monday after reportedly firing a handgun into the air at a crowded park near a College Station community center.

Brandon Demond Erskine told police he and some friends got into a fight with another group of men at the Lincoln Center around 9 p.m. Sunday, police said.

Erskine said the group started to crowd him so he fired several shots into the air with a .22-caliber revolver to try to clear the area so he could leave, officers said.

Police stopped the car Erskine was riding in as he left and found the revolver under the front passenger seat, according to a police affidavit.

Erskine was charged with deadly conduct, a third-degree felony, and unlawfully carrying a weapon, a Class A misdemeanor. He was held at the Brazos County Jail in lieu of $8,000 bail.
