Campus Student Shoots Roommate, Kills Self at Off-Campus Apartment

A student a Keene State College shot and injured his roommate and then killed himself early Friday morning at an off-campus apartment.

Police were alerted that a student had shot his roommate in the butt at about 12:30 a.m. about a quarter-mile from campus in an apartment. When police came to the door of the apartment, shooter Michael Dyke, 20, turned the gun on himself.

"Words were exchanged; they attempted to enter the room and Mr. Dyke fired one shot and killed himself,'' County Attorney Peter Heed said.

Police said they were not aware of any previous altercations between the two roommates, but believed they had an argument before the shootings occurred.
