UMass Buys Old Fraternity Houses

UMass Completes Purchase of 5 Former Frat Houses

The University of Massachusetts bought five former fraternity houses from Alpha Tau Gamma for about $2.5 million.

Alpha Tau Gamma, an agricultural fraternity that was founded at the university, had its bothers relocate to another house last year and had over the years come to own the houses of its neighboring disbanded fraternities.

"We don't have a particular use for that space at the moment, but since the owners wanted to sell it, we thought we should preserve it for the future use of the institution," the university's chancellor told a local newspaper.
