Iowa Police Blow Up Backpack After E-mail Bomb Threat

The Frat Boy News daily campus police report for Wednesday:

University of Iowa (compiled by Pat Curtis, RadioIowa)

A bomb squad blew up a unattended back pack outside Jesup Hall Monday - following a campus-wide alert about pipe bombs. Officials says the back pack did not contain explosives. The alert was issued following anonymous e-mails indicating that four pipe bombs were placed on university property.

U-I Public Safety Director Chuck Green says the location of the package was suspicious. Green says they're still at the beginning of the investigation and will try to follow the information found in the backpack.

Green says the e-mail threat didn't indicate where the pipe bombs are located or why they were placed on campus. U-I Information technology employees are working on tracing the e-mail.
