UC Santa Barbara Sigma Chi Chapter Loses Charter
UC Santa Barbara Fraternity Surrenders Charter After Hazing Assistant Dean of Students Stephan Franklin says the university removed its formal recognition of Sigma Chi about six months before the hazing incident. The university says the fraternity had "several egregious violations" of the school's risk management policies, which govern the use of alcohol at parties, hazing and alcohol in public spaces. The hazing incident revolved around a ritual for new members that sent an 18-year-old pledge to a hospital with alcohol poisoning. Four men were charged.
