UC Santa Barbara Fraternity Surrenders Charter After Hazing

The Sigma Chi fraternity has surrendered its University of California, Santa Barbara, charter in wake of a hazing incident a year ago that led to criminal charges.

Assistant Dean of Students Stephan Franklin says the university removed its formal recognition of Sigma Chi about six months before the hazing incident.

The university says the fraternity had "several egregious violations" of the school's risk management policies, which govern the use of alcohol at parties, hazing and alcohol in public spaces.

The hazing incident revolved around a ritual for new members that sent an 18-year-old pledge to a hospital with alcohol poisoning. Four men were charged.

"Many people - mostly guys - feel that they have to have sex with tons of people in order to improve their performance and keep their partner satisfied when they finally decide to commit," she writes.

Finding yourself a little steady honey to get it on with regularly may benefit you both.

"The less experience you both have, the more you can explore together, which creates that much more intimacy and romance," Ohara says.

"Sex is emotional, physical and spiritual," she continues, "By taking your pants off, you are agreeing to become a part of your partner and to let your partner be a part of you," Ohara says.

"I apologize if I have killed your boner or your puffy pussy, but next time you’re about to get down with someone you hardly know, think about what I’ve told you. If hookups are all you can get, well then, I feel bad for you," she concludes.

Weeks after the University of California in Santa Barbara postponed Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity's annual Fight Night event because they saw it as a risk, the college's Interfraternity Council has overturned the decision and allowed the brothers to hold the charity event.

Fight Night, a boxing philanthropic event that usually raises about $10,000 and has been a Pike tradition for the past 15 years, came under scrutiny because of its promotion of sex and violence. In addition to the boxing matches, the frat invites sorority girls to work as "ring girls" in between rounds, which some girls said is demeaning.

This year won't feature the girls, due to a ruling by the university. The brothers are now waiting for the approval of the university's Greek Life director before they can make further plans.

Two fraternities at different universities had their fight night fundraisers canceled last week after campus officials deemed the events too violent.

Both Utah State University's Sigma Chi and the University of California in Santa Barbara's Pi Kappa Alpha were forced to postpone their fight philanthropy events.

Sigma Chi didn't take the news too well. They posted a sign on their house reading "Fight Night Cancelled! Thank you, USU, for helping us lose the fight against cancer," which they were later told by the university to remove.

“We are trying to convince the [university] that we can definitely still have [Fight Night] because it’s for a charity,” Former Pike president and Fight Night coordinator Artemio Madrigal said. “Not only do we give the most money out of the Greek system, but people come from all over to watch [Fight Night]. It’s just kind of disappointing that this is happening.”

Jewish men looking to join a new fraternity this spring at the University of California, Santa Barbara, will now have an alternative to Alpha Epsilon Pi.

As Sigma Alpha Mu officially joins the UCSB IFC this spring, students at the college can now rush the fraternity. With 1,800 Jews at the university, the chapter determined that they would be quite successful after a study by its national board of officials.
