Tulane Pikes Suspended; 10 Charged in 'Hell Night' Hazing

Tulane Fraternity Suspended

Tulane University suspended its chapter of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity amidst heated hazing allegations stemming from what police are calling an incident at the group's "Hell Night" initiation.

Two of the fraternity's pledges claim to have second- and third-degree burns after being doused with pepper spray and having hot water and crab boil poured on their bodies, police said.

Ten of Pi Kappa Alpha's brothers are facing felony battery charges from the incident that, if convicted, could lead to 15 years in jail, police said. The incident occurred April 25 at the fraternity's house, police added.

One of the pledges suffering burns was "obviously extremely traumatized" by the ritual, his attorney Frank D'Amico Jr., of New Orleans, told CNN.

The pledge bas badly burned on his chest, buttocks and genitals, D'Amico said. Brothers used boiling hot water that contained pepper spray and a "crab boil" seasoning mixture including cayenne pepper to haze the pledges, he added.

"What they were doing was burning the young men," D'Amico said.

Pikes and ZBT Suspended at Northridge

Two CSUN Frat Houses Shut Down

Two fraternities at California State University in Northridge were ordered last week to clear brothers from their houses by the end of the month.

The city of Northridge told the brothers of Zeta Beta Tau and Pi Kappa Alpha fraternities to leave their houses because of disturbances they have caused in their neighborhoods.

The houses are rented by each of the fraternities and are currently for sale. The city did the same thing to Pi Kappa Phi in 2002, a report said.

Five fraternities at Purdue University suspended earlier this month for alcohol violations were cleared by the school this week to resume their regular activities.

Delta Upsilon, Phi Kappa Psi, Kappa Delta Rho, Pi Kappa Alpha and Sigma Alpha Epsilon were all among the frats suspended while the university investigated the possibility of underage drinking during rush week.

By university rules, alcohol is prohibited from all rush week events. To stay active now, some of the fraternities will be required to have alcohol awareness workshops.

The frats could face full suspensions if found in violation of campus policy again.

Florida Pikes Say Party with Pi Beta Phi Led to Suspension

Pi Phis with Pikes at Last Year's Unregistered Party

New details arose this week in the 2006 unregistered barbecue that caused the University of Florida's chapter of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity to earn a 4-year suspension, namely the fact that a sorority partied with the Pikes.

"Sixty girls do not show up by accident," the fraternity's acting president Patrick Duffey told a campus newspaper. In September 2006, the Pikes were said to have hosted an unregistered party at their house where minors were served alcohol and three girls claimed to have been drugged.

The fraternity was found guilty of the violation in February and placed on suspension through 2011. Pi Kappa Alpha appealed that decision to the university's vice president, but the violation was upheld in April.

Duffey said the brothers didn't register the party because it wasn't a formal event.

"Our girls were in attendance, but they did not purchase or serve alcohol," a spokesperson for Pi Beta Phi said. "It’s unfortunate that this circumstance has cast a negative light on anyone involved."

"I’m disappointed that Pi Phi would chose to shirk responsibility in that way, both nationally and locally," Duffey said.

No brothers were charged in the incident.

Pittsburg State Student Charged with BB Gun Assault

As reported by Sanguine et Purpure - The Unofficial Sig Ep Blog

By Greg Grisolano

A Pittsburg State University student has been charged with aggravated assault and criminal damage to property.

Police arrested Aaron Plumley, 25, of Pittsburg, on Monday night after members of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity called 911 to report shots being fired at the fraternity house at South Broadway and Ford Street. More than half a dozen officers from campus police, the Pittsburg Police Department and the Crawford County Sheriff’s Department responded.

Pittsburg police Maj. Brent Narges said a BB rifle was recovered and seized as evidence. No injuries were reported, but some windows at the fraternity house were damaged, authorities said.

Plumley, a freshman at PSU and a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity, also was charged with obstruction of justice and criminal discharge of a firearm. He was taken to the Crawford County Jail in Girard and was released at 2:30 a.m. Tuesday after posting $16,500 bond.

Steven Barker, president of Sigma Phi Epsilon, said the members of his fraternity do not have a problem with any other fraternities.

“The property damage isn’t my concern,” he said. “I’m concerned with the safety of the people at my house. Whether it’s a BB gun or a high-powered rifle, something could’ve happened, and we don’t appreciate it.”

Florida Pikes Appealing 4-Year Suspension

Pike to Appeal to State

The University of Florida's chapter of Pi Kappa Alpha is appealing a decision that would have them suspended from campus for four years after they were said to have hosted an unregistered party where individuals were harmed.

The fraternity was found guilty of the violation in February, and appealed that decision to the university's vice president. The violation was upheld in April and now the brothers are appealing to the state of Florida.

Alumni of the Pike chapter are paying all courts costs, a report said.

Michigan Pike House Vandalized Twice in Less Than a Week

Frat Vandalized a 2nd Time

The Pi Kappa Alpha house at the University of Michigan was broken into and vandalized for the second time in less than a week early Wednesday morning.

Brothers woke to the sound of a fire alarm around 4:20 a.m. Wednesday and headed downstairs only to find that someone had sprayed a fire extinguisher all over their dining.

The first case of vandalism was reported early Sunday morning. Brothers said the vandals gained entrance to the house sometime between 2 and 5 a.m. through an unlocked sliding glass door, police said. The vandals then used primer paint to leave a message for the brothers on a projection screen TV, which police said read, "F-cking Frats - I don't buy my friends."

Also damaged was a cable receiver, a CD changer, trophies, photos and other Pike memorobilia, totaling about $3,500. Painted elsewhere in the house were "Mich Sux" and "Gay," police said.

Michigan Pike House Vandalized by GDIs

UM Fraternity Damaged by Vandals

The brothers of Pi Kappa Alpha at the University of Michigan had their house broken into early Sunday morning and vandalized, likely by a group of students not too fond of fraternities.

The vandals gained entrance to the house sometime between 2 and 5 a.m. through an unlocked sliding glass door, police said.

About 10 to 15 brothers were in the house at the time of the vandalism, but no one heard it happen. It comes as the second odd incident at the Pike house this spring.

In March, a disgustingly, ugly woman randomly walked into their house and began masturbating on a couch before brothers were forced to kick her to the curb. A few days later, pictures of the woman began to circulate around the Internet and of course on the The Frat Boy News.

While the Pike brothers sat down to eat dinner, a woman walked into their living room, the crackhead woman took off her clothes, got on the couch and started going to town on herself. No one's sure who the woman wass or how she got into the house. She continued for about half an hour and the brothers asked her to leave several times, but she refused.

Finally, the brothers called the police, but the woman had left by the time they arrived. The Pikes said they believe she was between 20 and 30 years old, had short brown hair and may have been on drugs. She told the brothers her name was Melissa and she was a student at Eastern Michigan University.

The brothers said they were forced to get rid of the couch where the free Cinemax show took place.

LSU Students Need to Fight for Their Right to Party

Campus Witnesses 'War on Fun'

By Patrick W. Connelly
Co-Editor
, The Frat Boy News

A Louisiana State University student newspaper columnist saw the future three years ago, and he's making sure everyone on campus reads all about it.

"I've seen a concerted effort by many within the University to chip away at core elements of the student culture," writes LSU columnist Jason Dore in an editorial on the online edition of the student newspaper, The Daily Reveille.

Dore has been an LSU student for more than seven years and credits the campus for its uniqueness in student and social culture. Things are changing at the Baton Rouge campus, as Dore says the administration has severely cracked down on fun.

"Whether you believe it or not, the university administration has been embroiled in its own war, the "War on Frats,'" the student for a few years short of a decade says. "They should follow the example of the Bush administration and give a name to their efforts."

Dore writes that the administration began to pick on the Greek system after the death of a student. The university even went as far as to board up the former Delta Chi house in 2003, only to allow Pi Kappa Alpha to move in several years later.

"The days of big on-campus fraternity parties occurring weekly are long gone," he says. The university won't be happy until fraternities merely exist as glorified service organization, he says in the column.

Girl Falls Off Balcony at Virginia Pike House

Female Hospitalized After Frat Party Injury

It was a normal Friday night at the Pi Kappa Alpha house at the University of Virginia. People were hanging out, and there was a band playing.

Then the porch railing gave way, and a drunk 17-year old girl fell to the ground.

The girl, who's name has not been released because she is a minor, is in stable condition at a local hospital.

The railing broke when the girl was leaning on it, despite the fact that the house had recently been inspected by the national fraternity.

It is believed that the girl gained access to the party as part of the band, not as a university student.

"All the brothers are concerned and wish her a speedy recovery," said Pi Kappa Alpha President Sean Sullivan.

What Happened to the Michigan Pike House Masturbator?

Busted Masturbator Caught on Film?

A disgustingly, ugly woman randomly walked into the University of Michigan's Pi Kappa Alpha house in March and began masturbating on a couch before brothers were forced to kick her to the curb.

A few days later, pictures of the woman began to circulate around the Internet. What we here at The Frat Boy News are wondering is, what ever happened to her?

While the Pike brothers sat down to eat dinner, a woman walked into their living room, took off her clothes, got on the couch and started going to town on herself. No one's sure who the woman is or how she got into the house. She continued for about half an hour and the brothers asked her to leave several times, but she refused.

The Pikes said they believe she was between 20 and 30 years old, had short brown hair and may have been on drugs. IFC Steps in to Save Pike's Fight Night

Fraternity Council Resurrects Fight Night

By Patrick W. Connelly
Co-Editor, The Frat Boy News

Weeks after the University of California in Santa Barbara postponed Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity's annual Fight Night event because they saw it as a risk, the college's Interfraternity Council has overturned the decision and allowed the brothers to hold the charity event.

Fight Night, a boxing philanthropic event that usually raises about $10,000 and has been a Pike tradition for the past 15 years, came under scrutiny because of its promotion of sex and violence. In addition to the boxing matches, the frat invites sorority girls to work as "ring girls" in between rounds, which some girls said is demeaning.

This year won't feature the girls, due to a ruling by the university. The brothers are now waiting for the approval of the university's Greek Life director before they can make further plans.

Frat House Burglary Suspect Arrested

Police in Omaha, Nebraska, Monday arrested a man who allegedly broke into two different fraternity houses at Creighton University.

Police charged Christopher Butcher, 26, with six counts of burglary and four counts of theft by possession of stolen items for break-ins reported at Creighton's Pi Kappa Alpha and Sigma Phi Epsilon houses.

Among the items police said Butcher is accused of stealing are a checkbook, video games, laptop computers and even a car.

Frats Aren't Allowed to "Fight" for Charities

USU Cancels Frat Fight Night
Frat Boxing Tournament Called Off

Two fraternities at different universities had their fight night fundraisers canceled last week after campus officials deemed the events too violent.

Both Utah State University's Sigma Chi and the University of California in Santa Barbara's Pi Kappa Alpha were forced to postpone their fight philanthropy events.

Sigma Chi didn't take the news too well. They posted a sign on their house reading "Fight Night Cancelled! Thank you, USU, for helping us lose the fight against cancer," which they were later told by the university to remove.

“We are trying to convince the [university] that we can definitely still have [Fight Night] because it’s for a charity,” Former Pike president and Fight Night coordinator Artemio Madrigal said. “Not only do we give the most money out of the Greek system, but people come from all over to watch [Fight Night]. It’s just kind of disappointing that this is happening.”

Florida Pikes Suspended for September Barbecue

UF Frat Suspended Through 2011

The University of Florida's chapter of Pi Kappa Alpha has been suspended through 2011 for violating the college's alcohol policy by serving minors alcohol last September.

The university's Greek Judicial Board recommended to suspend the Pikes through 2009, but Florida's dean of students, Eugene Zdziarski, said the longer suspension came as a result of the frat failing to recognize the seriousness of their actions.

An investigation into the barbecue party began after three women claimed to be drugged by brothers. The state attorney has since dropped all charges against brothers because of a lack of evidence.
