The party is most likely still hopping in Boone, North Carolina after Appalachian State's stunning 34-32 victory over No. 5 Michigan rocked the college football world.

The Mountaineers' win marked the first time in history that a Division I-AA team defeated a nationally ranked Division I-A team, but it also has a lot of media people wondering how good this Appalachian State team really is.

Anybody can say what they want about Michigan not being ready to play, but give some credit to this Mountaineers team that has won back-to-back I-AA national championships.

Appalachian State went to one of the toughest venues in college football, dominated and pulled out a victory. Now that's saying something; whether the Michigan defense has holes or not.

Kudos to the Moutaineers and kudos to the underdog heart that beats in so many.

Here's the wrap on Week One of college football:

Who looked good?

Wisconsin: The vaunted Wisconsin defense struggled early with Washington State's passing game, but second-half adjustments were made and a powerful Wisconsin offense eventually doomed the Cougars.

LSU: The Tiger defense is the real deal. With improved offensive line play, this team can be special.

California: DeSean Jackson proved why he is the most electric player in the country. His 77-yard punt return in the second quarter gave Cal a 21-14 lead and changed the momentum on the game in a matter of seconds. After the return, the Vols never looked the same.

Georgia Tech: The Yellow Jackets dominated Notre Dame in every aspect of the game and look to be strong contenders for the ACC title.

Boston College: Eagles quarterback Matt Ryan threw five touchdown passes while big-play cornerback DeJaun Tribble picked off three Riley Skinner passes — two of which were in the end zone — to give Boston College a huge 38-28 opening day win over Wake Forest.

Player of the Week: The entire Appalachian State team receives this week's nomination. Great win for a great football program. Should also three-peat as Division I-AA national champs, but this win will be talked about for a long, long time.

Quote of the Week: "I wouldn't call it embarrassing because that takes away from them," Michigan running back Mike Hart said after the Wolverines loss. "We're disappointed. I can tell you that."

Michigan Theta Chi Keg Party Busted

Frat in Trouble Again

Someone yelling from the porch of the University of Michigan's Theta Chi house led to the fraternity getting busted with three kegs.

"It's just sheer stupidity,'' a police officer said. "Somebody drew attention to themselves, and now the entire fraternity has to deal with the repercussions.''

Someone on the fraternity's porch reportedly yelled racial slurs at two black police officers walking past the house. The Theta Chi house was then searched by police, where they found the kegs.

In 2002, the fraternity was cited after several incidents and banned from serving alcohol.

A student was also charged with underage possession of alcohol and possession of three fake IDs, police said. Police didn't find the person who yelled at the officers.

There used to be a running joke in North Carolina that the best college football team in the state couldn't be found at any of those esteemed campuses with basketball traditions in Chapel Hill, Durham or Raleigh. You had to go to a small resort town in the Blue Ridge Mountains named after Daniel Boone to find North Carolina's top program.

But as Appalachian State proved Saturday, when it pulled off one of the biggest upsets in college football history with a 34-32 victory at fifth-ranked Michigan, it isn't a joke anymore. The Mountaineers, a mostly unknown collection of players who would probably never show up on Michigan's recruiting radar, showed up at Michigan Stadium and proved they belonged.

"Hopefully the whole world knows," quarterback Armanti Edwards said at a news conference at Appalachian State.

It was a stunning upset by any measure, like a second-division soccer team beating Manchester United. But, oddly, it was not as great a shock to those who have followed Appalachian State. As Michigan's powerhouse of a team rolled through college football's Division I-A, the Mountaineers were winning the last two championships in Division I-AA, the equivalent of a grouping of top minor leagues.

The Mountaineers were not the creampuff opponent that Michigan fans might have envisioned, even if they do play in the Southern Conference against opponents like Wofford and Elon. In fact, a university official said the team has had difficulty scheduling nonconference teams in its own state, like North Carolina and Wake Forest, which apparently want no part of Appalachian State. They know better.

Appalachian State is 27-4 since the start of the 2005 season and has a 15-game winning streak. Jerry Moore, in his 19th season at Appalachian State, was named coach of the year the past two seasons by the American Football Coaches Association.

"I feel like everybody here who starts or even backs up can play for a Division I school anywhere in the country," receiver Dexter Jackson, who had three catches for 92 yards and two touchdowns, said during a news conference at Appalachian State on Sunday. "Coach Moore told us to play like we had a chip on our shoulder and show these boys."

The Atlanta Falcons will need a new quarterback, and here are five seniors they will be scouting:

1. Brian Brohm, Louisville. Falcons coach Bobby Petrino doesn't need a scouting report on the senior, who threw for nearly 6,000 yards with 35 touchdowns the past two seasons in Petrino's college offense.

2. Chad Henne, Michigan. Already has racked up more career passing yards (7,777) than Tom Brady did in Ann Arbor.

3. Andre Woodson, Kentucky. SEC's reigning total offense and touchdown leader has more tools than the last UK quarterback to be drafted high, Tim Couch.

4. John David Booty, Southern Cal. Carson Palmer ... Matt Leinart ... is the Pac-10's most efficient passer next first-round quarterback?

5. Colt Brennan, Hawaii. Is one-time Colorado quarterback (58 touchdown passes in 2006) just a product of the system?

9. Michigan Wolverines (compiled by The Lantern)

Seniors Chad Henne, Mike Hart and Jake Long all came back for a chance to defeat Ohio State and compete for a national title in 2007.

The Wolverine offense looks to be the most explosive offense in the Big Ten and one of the most prominent in the country with Henne (70 career TD passes) leading the charge as quarterback, Hart (3679 career rushing yards) rushing and wide receiver Mario Manningham (15 career TD receptions) as a major league deep-threat on the outside. Those three along with Long are potential first team All-Big Ten players as well as potential All-Americans.

The Wolverines will be one of the teams to beat in the Big Ten in 2007, and as long as they can manage to finish the job at the end of the season, they might be looking at a shot to win their first National Championship since 1997.

8. Auburn Tigers (compiled by FOX Sports)

After winning 33 games over the last three seasons (four more than Florida, two more than LSU, and three more than Ohio State), you'll have to forgive Auburn if it's ready to break something tasteful for being the nation's hard-luck team when it comes to national titles.

This year's team has the make-up and the talent to potentially get over the top, even if the schedule makes it too tough to actually do it. There might be some major personnel losses on the offensive line, and the departure of RB Kenny Irons doesn't help, but the defense has the potential to be the best yet under Tommy Tuberville (and he's had some killers), while the offense should be fine as long as QB Brandon Cox starts to be more of a playmaker.

Now it's time to finish the job. It's an overstatement to suggest Auburn's window has passed, but Alabama is finally done with its probation and has Nick Saban patrolling the sidelines. LSU has gotten better and better under Les Miles, Florida has assembled a mini-NFL team, and the rest of the SEC is improving by the year.

Tuberville and the program have to prove they haven't hit a plateau.

7. Texas Longhorns (compiled by Bleacher Report, AOL Sports)

In a conference full of turmoil, the Texas Longhorns will destroy the competition.

Oklahoma’s offseason problems have left the program in disarray. Colorado can't get out first gear. Texas A&M might pose a threat, and Texas Tech is always dangerous, but a healthy Colt McCoy will help the 'Horns finish what they started last season.

Since Mack Brown arrived in Austin, all this program has done is win, win, win. It took a transformational player like Vince Young to get the program over the top against Oklahoma and into a national championship, but they were plenty good before him and continue to be good after him. Brown sports a nifty 93-22 record here, with just 14 conference losses in his nine seasons.

Ticket Prices Soaring for Notre Dame and PSU Matchup

Though only one of the teams is likely to be ranked, the Sept. 9 matchup at Beaver Stadium between Notre Dame and Penn State is the hottest ticket in college football.

The average ticket price for the game at 107,282-seat Beaver Stadium is $1,100, according to TicketCity.com, which ranks the highest prices for tickets.

"Demand for Penn State versus Notre Dame is as high as we've seen for any game in the past few years," Randy Cohen, CEO of TicketCity.com., said in a statement.

TicketCity.com released its list of the hottest games of 2007 based on average price per ticket. The list was accumulated by compiling a majority of the available tickets on the secondary market throughout the entire country. The secondary market is comprised of more than 800 established ticket brokers, and every fan who is listing extra tickets to sell.

Not surprisingly, Notre Dame has four of the five most in demand tickets for the 2007 season.

The top five hottest games currently are: Penn State vs. Notre Dame (average price of $1,100), Michigan vs. Ohio State, Nov. 17 ($1,000); Notre Dame vs. USC, Oct. 20 ($950); Michigan vs. Notre Dame, Sept. 15 ($696); and Notre Dame vs. Boston College, Oct. 13 ($661).

"Notre Dame is always a big ticket, whether they are playing at home or on the road," said Zach Anderson, vice president at TicketCity.com. "Love them or hate them, college football fans always want to see Notre Dame."

Notre Dame is unranked in most preseason publications. Penn State was ranked 18th in the USA Today poll and is a consensus No. 17 in preseason publications.

The rest of the top 10 most popular tickets: 6. Florida vs. Florida State, Nov 24 ($581); 7. Auburn vs. Alabama, Nov. 24 ($571); 8. Texas vs. Oklahoma, Oct. 6 in Dallas ($555); 9. Georgia vs. Florida, Oct.22 in Jacksonville ($515); 10. Nebraska vs. USC, Sept. 15 ($505).

"The rivalry games are big every year," Anderson said. "Once you've been to them one time, you never want to miss it again. We have clients who buy their Red River Shootout (Texas/Oklahoma) and Iron Bowl (Auburn/Alabama) tickets from us every year. For them, nothing else matters other than making sure they are in that stadium for kick off."

Arizona Man in Charged with Trespassing While Taking a Shower

1:30 p.m., July 10 - Police arrested a man for false reporting near Sixth Street and Park Avenue after they noticed that the man looked like someone who had previously given out his brother's information as identification when caught trespassing at the Bear Down Gym on June 25.

When police questioned the man about that earlier incident, he told police he gave out his brother's information because he was drunk. Police told him his actions were illegal and he was cited for false reporting. Police then ordered him not to return to gym under any circumstances.

Fifteen minutes later, another officer saw the man walking toward the gym. Police found him showering with another man who was dressed in female clothing. He was arrested for criminal trespassing and his friend was told to never return to the gym or to any campus property.

1:05 a.m. July 15 - A 20-year-old Saline woman was robbed at gunpoint while walking to her vehicle after work in downtown Ann Arbor early Sunday morning, police reports said.

The woman was walking home from work when she was approached by an unknown man asking for directions. When she said she couldn't help him, he asked to use her cell phone, which she was holding. Before she could answer, he grabbed the phone with one hand and pulled a handgun from under his sweatshirt with the other. He demanded her purse and ordered her to lay flat on the ground. He then fled to a nearby vehicle.

Man Mugged at Gunpoint by Campus

The University of Michigan department of public safety issued a campus crime alert Saturday after a man was mugged at gunpoint.

The man said the suspect mugged him while walking back with a friend from a party around 1:20 a.m.

Police said after the victim said he was unable to give the men directions, one of the men pulled out a black handgun and demanded the victim give him all the money he had, the Michigan Daily reported.

While the victim stood still, the second man then reached into the victim's pocket and took his cell phone and his wallet, which contained $19, the student newspaper said. The suspects told the victim to lie on the ground before they ran south on Lincoln Avenue, the newspaper reported.

Michigan Students Busted for Downloading Music

Burned: Students Hit With RIAA Suits

Students at the University if Michigan may face penalties for illegally downloading music as 12 lawsuits for filed against the college's network users.

Eleven of the students were reported by the university's student newspaper to have settled with the Recording Industry Association of America. The group asked the university for the identities of many students they believed were connected with illegal file sharing activity.

Students and faculty told the newspaper fines ranged between $4,000 and $5,000.

Michigan Beta Chapter Closes

Frat's National Org Dissolves Chapter

After they were said to have repeated violated campus rules, the University of Michigan's chapter of Beta Theta Pi will be forced to close its doors for good.

The national organization of Beta Theta Pi decided to close the fraternity after several violations from the past few years caught their attention. In 2005, pictures of brothers drinking extreme amounts of alcohol showed up in the hands of campus officials.

Last summer, four brothers were caught violating alcohol policies while attending a Beta leadership event, and one was hospitalized for alcohol poisoning. The straw that supposedly broke the camel's back, so to speak, was when a picture of a chapter officer drinking on St. Patrick's Day were sent to the national fraternity

The shut down the frat May 2 and there is not yet any word whether the Betas will have a chance to return to Michigan anytime soon.

Michigan Pike House Vandalized Twice in Less Than a Week

The Pi Kappa Alpha house at the University of Michigan was broken into and vandalized for the second time in less than a week early Wednesday morning.

Brothers woke to the sound of a fire alarm around 4:20 a.m. Wednesday and headed downstairs only to find that someone had sprayed a fire extinguisher all over their dining.

The first case of vandalism was reported early Sunday morning. Brothers said the vandals gained entrance to the house sometime between 2 and 5 a.m. through an unlocked sliding glass door, police said. The vandals then used primer paint to leave a message for the brothers on a projection screen TV, which police said read, "F-cking Frats - I don't buy my friends."

Also damaged was a cable receiver, a CD changer, trophies, photos and other Pike memorobilia, totaling about $3,500. Painted elsewhere in the house were "Mich Sux" and "Gay," police said.

The vandals gained entrance to the house sometime between 2 and 5 a.m. through an unlocked sliding glass door, police said. The vandals then used primer paint to leave a message for the brothers on a projection screen TV, which police said read, "F-cking Frats - I don't buy my friends."

Also damaged was a cable receiver, a CD changer, trophies, photos and other Pike memorobilia, totaling about $3,500. Painted elsewhere in the house were "Mich Sux" and "Gay," police said.

About 10 to 15 brothers were in the house at the time of the vandalism, but no one heard it happen. It comes as the second odd incident at the Pike house this spring.

In March, a disgustingly, ugly woman randomly walked into their house and began masturbating on a couch before brothers were forced to kick her to the curb. A few days later, pictures of the woman began to circulate around the Internet and of course on the The Frat Boy News.

While the Pike brothers sat down to eat dinner, a woman walked into their living room, the crackhead woman took off her clothes, got on the couch and started going to town on herself. No one's sure who the woman wass or how she got into the house. She continued for about half an hour and the brothers asked her to leave several times, but she refused.

Finally, the brothers called the police, but the woman had left by the time they arrived. The Pikes said they believe she was between 20 and 30 years old, had short brown hair and may have been on drugs. She told the brothers her name was Melissa and she was a student at Eastern Michigan University.

The brothers said they were forced to get rid of the couch where the free Cinemax show took place.

Police Sketch Man Who Attacked Michigan Woman

University of Michigan Police released a composite today of a man who grabbed a student on a walking path near Mitchell Field Monday.

The 20-year-old student told police she was walking on a trail at the east end of Fuller near the Mitchell parking lot just before 4 p.m. when a stranger grabbed her. She said the man attempted to pull her off the path, but she struggled and broke free.

The man was last seen running southeast toward the railroad tracks.

The man was described as white, about 30 years old, 6 feet to 6 feet 3 inches tall, 175 pounds, clean shaven, with short blond hair and wearing a gray T-shirt. Campus police are asking anyone with information to call 734-763-1131.

Michigan Frat Guys Beat Up Teen at Sorority Party

An 18-year-old University of Michigan student said he was providing security for a sorority party when a group of fraternity members attacked him early Saturday, Ann Arbor Police said.

The student said he was serving as a doorman for a party at a sorority in the 1300 block of Washtenaw Avenue when a group of four or five fraternity members tried to enter at 2 a.m. without paying, reports said. He said he escorted them out, then one man grabbed his genitals and punched him in the face as he was doubling over, reports said.

The student said he was pushed to the ground and punched, and then men ripped his $400 cashmere sweater, reports said. He said he was not injured, and the attackers have not been identified.

Drunken Intruder Found in Ann Arbor

When Ann Arbor Police found a drunken intruder in a campus-area home early today, he was face-down on a stranger's bed - with no shoes or shirt - and thought he was at his sister's house in Wayne, police said.

The 23-year-old man, on leave from the Navy, is accused of forcing open the door to an apartment in the 600 block of Church Street at 2:30 a.m. and then entering another unlocked apartment to sleep.

A resident of the home said he was studying at 2:30 a.m. when he heard a crashing sound on the second-floor, then discovered an intruder walking up the stairs mumbling that the home belonged to his mother, reports said.

When officers arrived, they had to force the door to the apartment because the intruder had a security chain on the door, reports said. He was face-down on the bed, partially clothed with broken glasses, and insisted he was in Wayne, reports said.

The man later told police he is on leave from the military and was drinking with friends when he lost track of them and ended up in the home, reports said. He has no prior arrests, police said.
