UA Recruitment Continues to Grow
Sororities Give Out Bids

The number of girls rushing sororities at the University of Alabama and Arkansas State University was bigger than ever this year, causing campus officials to consider adding more sororities.

"Recruitment was extremely successful and our four organizations are excited about their new members," said Arkansas State administrator Sara Bailey. Each sorority at the college was allowed to take 10-12 more girls than usual because so many signed up.

"I am excited to now be an Alpha Gam because they are the best and most lady-like ladies I've ever seen," said Mary Grace Hughes, an Arkansas State sophomore who received a bid from Alpha Gamma Delta.

At Alabama, 1,079 girls received bids while more than 1,400 signed up for recruitment.

"I'm really pleased that 87 percent of girls that signed their bid cards got their first choice," said Alabama Panhel president Julia James. "I think overall all the chapters have been really pleased with their recruitment classes."

Sigma Chi Fraternity Celebrates 20th Anniversary

Alumni from all over the United States are expected to return to Arkansas State University this weekend to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Sigma Chi fraternity at the campus.

Plans for the weekend include a golf outing, afternoon cook-out at the frat house and a special banquet at the Holiday Inn. Very special guests include former Sigma Chi international president Dick Hester and the current international frat sweetheart, Ami Jackson.

The chapter originally received its charter on January 10, 1987.

ASU Fraternity Apologizes for Halloween Prank

The Pi Kappa Alpha house at Arkansas State University pulled the classic no-admission of guilt apology for the theft of holiday decorations stolen around Halloween.

"Brittany Luppy says she found her stolen decorations inside the Pi Kappa Alpha frat house shortly after they were stolen from her residence on Mockernut Lane, near the ASU campus."

"The Pikes were never officially charged with the crime, but the fraternity has since written a letter of apology and a $50 gift card for The Mall at Turtle Creek to Luppy."
