Student Protests Against Pike's 'Dreamgirls' Calender

FGCU Student Protests Fraternity's Calender

The Fratboynews.com reported on "A Sorority Girl for Every Month!" in the beginning of January. The Pi Kappa Alpha chapter at Florida Gulf Coast University has produced a calender featuring FGCU sorority sisters, in a bid to raise donations for the American Cancer Society. Featured in the calender are Sallie Rickert, 21; Charlotte Rickert, 21; and Kat Anderson, 19; shown upper left, with several Pike brothers.

Unfortunately some FGCU students seem to have a problem with the altruistic project. “This is sexual harassment” claims Kristin Vaughn, 28-year-old senior, pictured lower right. Vaughn says the calender objectifies women. "Some of the women in the calendars wore swimsuits, and others wore skirts and had their shirts tied to reveal their bare stomachs" says Vaughn. Click here to buy the Dreamgirls calender, proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society.
"We're FGCU students, every girl in the calendar is an FGCU student. I really don't see how selling it here offends anyone," said PIKE Internal VP, Mick Jacobsen, shown at left.
For the record, FratBoyNews.com is in favor of the the following: 1)Free Speech 2)Charitable Giving 3)Decorative wall hangings and 4)Attractive Ladies. Purchase the calender here.

If "frat boy news" regards free speech so highly, then why would you consider a calendar filled with women wearing bikinis, sexy kitty costumes, and naughty teacher outfits "free speech"? The women are not expressing themselves; they are only appealing to a male's fantasy. In reality, the women are reduced to MUTE two-dimensional objects for spectator enjoyment. And that's hardly what I call freedom.

Hmmmm... bikinis, sexy kitty costumes, and naughty teacher outfits... That’s three, do you think you could describe the other nine months for us? There may be some readers who haven't made up their minds to purchase yet. In fact, you may want to contact the guy's at the fraternity house; they might owe you a sales commission. Thanks for all your help, and remember it’s for good cause.

"Good cause" or not, I still disagree with the calendars being sold on campus.
Today, Mick Jacobson stated in public that "hindsight is 20/20," and that perhaps next year the Pikes will "rethink" how the women are dressed in the calendar.
