One third of University of Arizona Frats on Probation for Alcohol
Seven fraternities, one sorority on probation for alcohol violations
The University of Arizona seems to have a thing for putting fraternity's and sorority's on probation. At last count, there were seven frats and one sorority's on probation for alcohol violations. There are twenty-two fraternity's in all, making for roughly a third being on lock down.
The stipulations of probation are that the house cannot hold a party where alcohol is served. Most are on probation until May, as shown on this nifty chart, curtosy of The Wildcat Online.
While it may appear that the University is picking on the Greeks, they seem to be the source of many incidents, according to officials. "Almost every time a student is assaulted or needs medical care, we can trace it back to a party involving alcohol at a fraternity house," said Sgt. Eugene Mejia, spokesman for the University of Arizona Police Department.
"The big point I'd like to make is that there's no difference between the greeks and the non-greeks," said Anthony Skevakis, program coordinator of judicial affair. "They just tend to get caught more."
At least at the University of Arizona they do!
