A former Oregon State University student was sentenced Monday for the October shooting of a homeless man outside Alpha Gamma Rho's fraternity house.
Josh Grimes, 20, and a brother of Alpha Gamma Rho was said to have shot the hobo for pure sport and the defense therefore pursued the maximum penalty - 150 days in jail, 400 hours of community service to be completed at a homeless shelter and three years of supervised probation.
“This was not something that we’ve done for sport,” Grimes said in court. “My intention was never to harm (the hobo) — but it did.”
“He shot him like a sniper,” the district attorney said. “He was shooting at someone who was the most vulnerable person he could pick.”
Grimes must also pay about $3,000 in fines.
