The Top 10 Early Season College Football Games

With college football rapidly approaching, I was checking out the early season schedule to see what games I should be getting excited about. I have to say that there will be quite a few very good games in the early going. Here are ten that I'm particularly excited about.

10. Louisville @ Kentucky (WK 3)
-Now, Louisville should win this one. They have won 4 in a row in this series and last year, it was a 59-28 blowout. Having said that, Kentucky is a dangerous team. They play in the SEC, so they are no stranger to tough games. They're playing at home and they have a good number of returning starters. Louisville had better watch out.

9. South Florida @ Auburn (WK 2)
-South Florida is the new kid on the block. And Auburn is one of the best college football programs in the country. This will be a very tough game for the Bulls, but if you want to be the best, you have to beat the best.

8. TCU @ Texas (WK 2)
-TCU doesn't get the respect they deserve, in my opinion. Beat Texas in their house and respect is something you won't have to worry too much about. TCU returns 9 starters from one of the best defenses in the country- the only question is this: can they put points on the board against the Longhorns?

7. Notre Dame @ Penn State (WK 2)
-Notre Dame smacked Penn State last year in South Bend. This year, they are traveling to Happy Valley and will be taking on a rabid PSU crowd as well as a more experienced and talented Penn State team. It should be a good one.

6. USC @ Nebraska (WK 3)
-This is a classic game between one team that is at the top of the college football world and one team that is used to being at the top and is desperately trying to get back there.

Nebraska Frats Celebrating Greek Week

Greek Week Celebrates Contributions of UNL Greeks

In an effort to congratulate and celebrate being Greek and all the work members of fraternities and sororities at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln have done on campus and in the Lincoln community, the Greek community is celebrating Greek Week this week on campus.

These students have also worked to advertise the events, working to encourage all Greeks to participate in the celebration events of the week. While most of the events are designed to encourage Greeks to get out, have fun and meet other Greeks, there is still an emphasis on community service. Most of the events are free, with the exception of fundraising events.

"We try to focus on community service. Most houses have philanthropies, too. We feel like community service and giving back to the community of Lincoln is important. It's part of being in the Greek system," said Tim Pederson, a junior marketing major and IFC president.

Greek Week kicked off last Friday with Spaghetti Splash, an event used to raise money for a memorial for former UNL student Bob Foehlinger, a Delta Tau Delta Fraternity member and campus leader who tragically died in a car accident in 2003.

This year's big event for Greek Week is a chariot race at the Nebraska State Fairgrounds on Tuesday night. The event is new this year, and both Pederson and Kassmeier said they are
excited to see the turnout.

Wednesday evening features free pizza in the Nebraska Union and free bowling at East Campus. After bowling, there will be an awards ceremony. The awards, called Greek Gods and Goddesses, are awarded for things like funniest greek.

Thursday night is the final night of Greek Week and features a banquet. Scholarships will be awarded to selected individuals. There will also be a scholarship for one sorority and one fraternity.

"Greek Week is just kind of a week long celebration for being greek," Pederson said. "It's important for the university as a whole to have a good greek system."

Fake Firefighter Enters Nebraska Sorority House

Police: Man Pretends to be Firefighter, Enters Sorority House

LINCOLN, Neb. -- Police on the University of Nebraska campus said they arrested a man accused of entering a sorority house, then pretending to be a city firefighter.

The 29-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday after sorority members told police the man claimed to be a firefighter making an inspection. Police said the man was found on the second floor of the house at about 2:30 a.m. Members in the house took down his name from an ID card he showed them and wrote down a good description of him.

Later that afternoon, campus police said they cited him on suspicion of trespassing, disturbing the peace and impersonating a public servant. Police said the man told officers he had been drinking and went into the house through a unlocked door.
