Louisville Racks Up 73 Points in Opener

Brian Brohm threw for 375 yards and four touchdowns Thursday night as 10th-ranked Louisville opened the season with a 73-10 crushing of Murray State.

Brohm left early in the second half after completing 16 of 21 passes. Louisville produced its largest point total in 81 years and won its 19th straight game.

Harry Douglas caught five passes for 151 yards and two touchdowns.

The game marked the debut of Louisville Coach Steve Kragthorpe, who took over the team when Bobby Petrino moved on to guide the Atlanta Falcons.

Anthony Allen added 56 yards and a touchdown on seven carries and George Stripling gained 91 yards on 14 rushes.

Louisville piled up 655 yards of offense and scored 49 points in the first half. The Cardinals scored on their first play with Brohm throwing a 44-yard pass to Douglas.

Wrongful Death Lawsuit Against Murray Fraternity

A wrongful death lawsuit against Murray State University's chapter of the fraternity Lambda Chi Alpha involving the son of a state representative may be nearing an end, a report said Saturday.

Police said Lambda Chi Alpha brother Harrison Yonts had left his frat house in November of 2005 when he struck student Nadia Shaheen with his car. Yonts, the son of North Carolina state representative Brent Yonts, has already been convicted in Shaheen's death, and will likely serve at least 17 years of a 20-year sentence in prison.

The latest lawsuit claims that Lambda Chi Alpha and its brothers lacked responsibility for giving alcohol to Yonts. Yonts admitted to being drunk the night of the accident.

March 22 - 10:18 p.m.: An officer from the General Services building reported a plastic swimming pool in the west parking lot. Central Plant was asked to pick up the pool.

March 23 - 6:51 p.m.: A security guard at White College reported the sound of gunshots south of the college's parking lot. The Murray Police Department was advised. A resident was using fireworks to scare away birds at Wells Hall.

March 26 - 12:08 p.m.: A caller reported a subject had passed out by the food court in Faculty Hall. Emergency Medical Services was advised. The subject refused transport and was escorted back to a residential college by an officer. An officer took a report.

March 10 - 5:23 p.m.: A caller from North 14th Street reported vandalism to a vehicle parked at the Sigma Chi house. The Murray Police Department was contacted to take a report.

March 11 - 12:26 a.m.: The Murray Police Department was advised that about 20 students were fighting in the Sigma Chi parking lot. The department requested assistance from Murray State officers. Emergency Medical Services was notified and a Murray State officer took an information report.

March 13 - 10:04 a.m.: A caller from Pogue Library reported a tissue was smoldering in an ashtray outside of the building. The caller extinguished the tissue. The Murray Fire Department and Facilities Management were notified. The state fire marshal was notified. An officer took a report.

Gas, Insulin Needles, and Girls with Pot at Murray State

Feb. 2 - 3:05 p.m.: A caller from the Regional Special Events Center reported the smell of gas. The alarm was activated by an officer at a pull station. The officer advised the smell was natural gas and was caused by a mechanical problem. Central Plant and the Murray Fire Department were advised. The state fire marshal was notified and an officer took a report.

Feb. 3 - 12:42 a.m.: Murray State Police at Franklin College issued citations to Brittany Goff, freshman from Louisville, Ky., Emily Moylan, freshman from Lexington, Ky., and Breanna Gaubatz, sophomore from Liverpool, N.Y., for possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Feb. 3 - 1:44 a.m.: A caller from the Alpha Tau Omega house requested an officer to escort subjects off the property. The subjects were not invited to the party and were sneaking in the back. The Murray Police Department was advised.

Feb. 7 - 12:04 a.m.: A caller reported several young males climbing the wall between the Price Doyle Fine Arts building and Lovett auditorium. The individuals were advised not to be horse playing on the property.

Feb. 7 - 8:16 a.m.: Facilities Management found a used insulin needle in front of the Waterfield library. The needle was put in an appropriate disposal container.

Fake IDs, Toilet Paper, and Hobos Who Think They're Jesus

Jan. 28 - 12:55 p.m.: Police found a familiar male loitering outside the library. The man believed himself to be Jesus, and 5-0 issued him an official trespass notice. He was told the consequences of entering campus in the future, a fact our friend disputed as he claimed to be studying to get a Master’s degree. The man then became agitated and starting pacing back and forth. He stated he would be in contact with his lawyer.

Jan. 24 - 1:05 a.m.: A woman was found sleeping near the library. Campus Security learned that she had been sleeping there for at least three nights in a row; since she was mentally ill and had no fixed address, constables left her in the care of the Women’s Emergency Action Centre.

Jan. 24 - time unknown: A student was cited for having a fake driver's license. The student's wallet was found by an unknown person and returned to the polic. Police found the fake ID card in the wallet that stated he was 21 years old. The man was actually 19. When police asked him about the fake ID when he came to pick up the wallet, he said, "I usually leave it at home."

Jan. 24 - time unknown: A student's car keys and fitness pass were stolen from the women's locker room in the Student Recreation Center. The student said she placed her keys, backpack and sweater in an unlocked locker around 4:30 p.m. When she returned to the locker at 5:30 p.m., the keys and fitness pass were missing. Her car was not stolen. Police have no witnesses or suspects.

Jan. 31 - 8:34 p.m.: Reports of a vehicle toilet papered in the Roy Stewart Stadium parking lot. The roommate of the vehicle owner was advised and no damage was found on the vehicle.

Jan. 31 - 10:55 p.m.: An officer talked to a driver of a vehicle doing donuts in a parking lot. The driver was advised of the consequences of reckless driving.

Former Lambda Chi Guilty of Murder

Jury Finds Lawmaker's Son Guilty of Murder

Harrison Yonts, Lambda Chi Alpha brother, and son of Kentucky State Representative Brent Yonts, has been found guilty of murder. A jury convicted him of murder, driving under the influence, tampering with evidence and leaving the scene of an accident. Yonts is pictured at left.

Police alleged that Yonts, at that time a sophomore at Murray State, struck 62-year-old Nadia Shaheen with his silver Lincoln LS the morning of November 11, 2005. Her body was found along the road later that day. Shaheen dies of trauma to the head.

In move right out of CSI, police linked evidence at the scene to Yonts vehicle. There was a piece of broken mirror on the scene, and marks on the vehicle that matched the victims pants.

Shahee was set to graduate in December 2005 as a masters student in the Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages program. She was a native of Egypt, and was struck within a few hundred yard from her home.

Yonts had left a Lambda Chi party around 2 am and was intoxicated when he struck the victim. Lambda Chi Alpha was immediately suspended after the incident.
