Zeta Psi Gone at Syracuse

Closing the Chapter

There's a considerable difference this semester at Syracuse University as Zeta Psi fraternity is no longer a part of the campus.

After racking up a variety of offenses including illegal pledges, unregistered social events, alcohol problems and an incident of assault, Zeta Psi's national headquarters decided to shutdown the fraternity.

"Being in a fraternity, it would be like someone coming into your apartment, throwing a punch at your roommate and expecting your two roommates not to try and restrain him," said Nick Martin, the frat's last president, on the assault situation that may have pushed its national organization over the edge.

"The national organization made several attempts to work with Zeta Psi to overcome some of the behaviors that were causing the violations. And, in their own words, the attempts were unsuccessful," the university's interim Greek Life director said.

Georgia Gets New Zeta Psi Chapter

New Frat Thwarts Traditional Stereotypes

A student at the University of Georgia didn't like the other fraternities on campus, so he decided to make his own.

Austin Carson, a junior at Georgia, created a colony of Zeta Psi at the university because he didn't like the stereotypical image the other frat portrayed.

"People wouldn't expect to fit in, but they do," he said. According to a report by the university's student newspaper, everbody in Zeta Psi brings something different to the table.

"We're different from the other frats in that we have such a wide range of personalities. A lot of the frats on campus try to ingrain that one belief and one 'look' about their frat, but really we're all just different, and we came together to make something that's really special and hopefully successful in the future," Ryan Lavner, a Zeta Psi, said.

Zeta Psi Admits To Breaking Rules at Wisconsin Party

Fraternity Leader Concedes Notorious Party Broke Rules

As reported by 27 News:

The executive chairman of the Wisconsin's Zeta Psi fraternity chapter told 27 News he did not believe a woman student at his fraternity could have been sexually assaulted during a December party of about 100 people at the fraternity house.

"There was no opportunity," senior Ari Metzger told 27 News. "I think we do a really good job of monitoring our guests."
He did say keg beer was served at the party, in violation of insurance rules applying to the fraternity.

In an exclusive 27 News interview, the woman, now 21 and out of school, said she felt ill the day after the party and uncertain of what might have happened there during significant periods of time. She said she went to Meriter Hospital for tests, and said a rape examination determined she had injuries consistent with sexual assault.

Meztger said he knows the woman and saw her frequently at the party. He said she appeared very intoxicated. "From the time I realized she was intoxicated to the point that she might pose a danger to herself, I didn't leave her side for the rest of the night."

Zeta Psi Hazing Video Pulled From YouTube

YouTube Video Depicts Zete Hazing

A video called "Zete Hazing" which was originally posted on YouTube.com in November was pulled off the site on Monday. The video showed alleged acts of hazing by the Zeta Psi fraternity, which was de-recognized by Dartmouth in the fall.

According to the Dartmouth Online, "The video depicts a member of Zeta Psi digging in the backyard as objects are thrown down at him by other members on the third floor balcony. Lawn chairs and cups full of liquid are thrown down at the member on the ground. At one point, the members on the balcony light a book on fire, telling the member below that he better save his pledge book before it is completely destroyed.

While he runs upstairs to save it, the group of brothers above throw it off the balcony. At the end of the five-minute and four-second tape, the men on the balcony go inside as the member outside cleans up the debris. The video was shot by a group of unknown females with their commentary running throughout the footage."

Because Zeta Psi is no longer recognized by the college, its hazing policies and disciplinary actions cannot be implemented. It may hurt the fraternity when they re-apply for recognization next fall.

Four members from Zeta Psi who were contacted by the Dartmouth student newspaper refused to comment on the video.

"Hey Man, Can I Score Some Weed?"

Underage, Hanover High Partygoers Hit Up Frat Row

The ivy-league frat guys at Dartmouth have been experiencing the same problem many fraternity rows across the country have had. Underage kids, often from the local high schools, are coming over the the frat house to get their buzz. Free beer is not the only thing that high school students seen to be scoring. As The Dartmouth noted:

"In October 2006, Hanover Police placed a 15-year-old male and a 16-year-old male into protective custody after they were stopped by Safety and Security coming out of Zeta Psi fraternity. Both individuals smelled of marijuana, according to Hanover Police Chief Nicholas Giaccone, although the students argued that they were just exposed to the smoke."

Yeah right, fellas. That one might work with your mom, but it wont fly over here at the Fratboynews.com.

Fax Machines, Pot, Shrooms, Textbooks, and Spray Paint

The Frat Boy News daily campus police report for Friday:

Bentley College (compiled by Matt Wagner, The Vanguard)
Jan. 22 - 12:42 p.m.: Campus Police received a call from a residence in Forest Hall on their emergency line, but heard only noises sounding like a fax machine. When officers arrived, they determined that the noises were caused by the residents attempting to configure their Tivo.

Jan. 24 - 1:58 p.m.: Officers responded to the parking lot behind Slade Hall, where they had found a large black safe. The safe, weighing approximately 50 pounds, appeared to have been pried open, and the electronic lock mechanism was broken off. Due to a lack of information, and because no one has reported a safe missing, the case is considered closed at this time.

Jan. 26 - 3:50 a.m.: Campus Police responded to a fire alarm activation in Orchard North. As the residents were evacuating, officers investigated the cause of the alarm, which was caused when a resident of the second floor fell asleep while cooking pasta.

Jan. 27 - 1:44 a.m.: Campus Police responded to Kresge Hall for a reported odor of marijuana. Officers determined that the smell was emanating from a particular room and knocked on the door. The door was opened by a Bentley student with red, bloodshot eyes, who denied that he or his roommate had used marijuana. They refused to allow Campus Police to search the room, but officers observed numerous beer cans throughout the room and a burning candle, which were confiscated. Both residents will be charged with possession of a controlled substance, underage consumption of alcohol, and violation of college rules.

Jan. 27 - 2:14 a.m.: Campus Police was called to the third floor of Slade for a fight. When officers arrived, the fight was no longer in progress. After the involved students denied medical attention, officers took statements from each as to the causes of the fight. They determined that the fight was caused when an underage student asked another student to buy him alcohol. A third student purchased and delivered the alcohol, but the first student complained that he hadn't received proper change. A verbal argument ensued, which soon escalated into a physical confrontation in which one of the students attempted to choke another. At the time of press, the case was still under investigation.

Jan. 27 - 3:40 a.m.: Campus Police was called to Collins Hall, where a female student reported that her former boyfriend had ransacked her room while she was gone. She stated that he knew her combination, and Campus Police requested that a locksmith respond to change the combination overnight. The female stated that nothing appeared to be missing. Officers approached the male student, who appeared to be heavily intoxicated. Officers administered a field sobriety test, which he failed. He was taken into protective custody at Waltham Police Department, and will be judicially charged with protective custody, breaking and entering, and malicious behavior.
