Pittsburg State Student Charged with BB Gun Assault

As reported by Sanguine et Purpure - The Unofficial Sig Ep Blog

By Greg Grisolano

A Pittsburg State University student has been charged with aggravated assault and criminal damage to property.

Police arrested Aaron Plumley, 25, of Pittsburg, on Monday night after members of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity called 911 to report shots being fired at the fraternity house at South Broadway and Ford Street. More than half a dozen officers from campus police, the Pittsburg Police Department and the Crawford County Sheriff’s Department responded.

Pittsburg police Maj. Brent Narges said a BB rifle was recovered and seized as evidence. No injuries were reported, but some windows at the fraternity house were damaged, authorities said.

Plumley, a freshman at PSU and a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity, also was charged with obstruction of justice and criminal discharge of a firearm. He was taken to the Crawford County Jail in Girard and was released at 2:30 a.m. Tuesday after posting $16,500 bond.

Steven Barker, president of Sigma Phi Epsilon, said the members of his fraternity do not have a problem with any other fraternities.

“The property damage isn’t my concern,” he said. “I’m concerned with the safety of the people at my house. Whether it’s a BB gun or a high-powered rifle, something could’ve happened, and we don’t appreciate it.”

The No. 8 ranked University of Louisville baseball team arrived in Omaha, Neb., Wednesday evening for the program's first ever appearance at the College World Series. U of L will face the No. 2 seeded Rice Owls in the 2007 College World Series opener Friday at 2 p.m. ET at historic Rosenblatt Stadium and the game will be televised nationally by ESPN2.

The Cards (46-22) opened Wednesday by meeting with reporters and practicing for the final time at Jim Patterson Stadium before Friday's series opener against Rice (54-12). After arriving at Omaha Eppley Airfield at approximately 4:30 p.m. CT, the Cardinal players, coaches and support staff visited Rosenblatt Stadium for the first time prior to checking-in to the official team hotel.

U of L advanced to Omaha with Sunday's impressive 20-2 victory over Oklahoma State in the third and decisive game of the Super Regional. Prior to that, the Cards advanced through the Columbia (Mo.) Regional with back-to-back wins over No. 1 seeded Missouri. Rice returns to Omaha for the second consecutive year and the fourth time in the last six years after winning all five of its game in the 2007 NCAA tournament. The Owls won the 2003 College World Series championship, the school's first NCAA team title in any sport.

Florida Football Players Making Offseason News - In the Police Reports

No fewer than seven Florida football players have dealt with legal issues since the Jan. 8 national-title victory and erased some of the good vibes from last season.

Monday night's arrest of tailback/punt returner Brandon James and basketball player Brandon Powell on charges of purchasing -- a felony -- and possessing 8 grams of marijuana continued the football program's problems with the law.

The issues have disturbed Urban Meyer, who said poor player conduct isn't an epidemic but must improve. "It's a day-to-day operation," the coach said last month. "We've had a few guys who've made some small mistakes, and a guy or two who've made some big ones."

One guy with a big mistake is guard Ronnie Wilson, who was charged with two felonies and a misdemeanor for an April incident involving a gun in a parking lot near campus. Wilson was suspended indefinitely, and his status with the team remains uncertain.

James and safety Dorian Munroe each incurred felony charges in the past three weeks. Munroe was charged with theft in late May when he removed a University Police Department boot from his car and put it in his trunk.

Cornerback Jacques Rickerson (possession of marijuana), linebacker Dustin Doe (affray) and safety John Curtis (probation violation) have faced misdemeanor charges since the season ended. The public-brawling charges against Doe were dismissed, and Rickerson's case was resolved without legal punishment. Safety Jamar Hornsby -- a cousin of James and Rickerson, who are half-brothers -- had a sworn complaint filed against him in April after he allegedly tossed a man onto the hood of a woman's car in a local parking lot.

After James' arrest and indefinite suspension, UF Athletic Director Jeremy Foley released a statement expressing his displeasure.

"We are aware of the situation and understand the severity of its nature," the statement read. "This is not something we take lightly."

Georgia Man Charged wth Credit Card Theft

University of Georgia police have arrested an Athens man in connection with theft on campus.

UGA police charged 33-year-old Letorris McDuffie with 21 counts of credit card fraud, 12 counts of theft, six counts of criminal trespass, two counts of being a party to credit card fraud and one count of theft by conversion. Police charged him Friday two days after he was arrested at a UGA office building where he had been seen a few weeks ago.

Officers arrested McDuffie Wednesday and took him to the Clarke County Jail when he returned to the UGA Foundation building.

Staff told police they had seen the man snooping late last month. Campus police Lieutenant Lisa Boone says police had barred McDuffie from all UGA properties for two years on February first when they caught him stealing construction materials from the Stegeman Coliseum Annex.

Boone said police suspected McDuffie stole several wallets, pocketbooks and backpacks from campus buildings between May 25th and June fifth because he matched the description of a man employees and students saw in the area where several thefts took place.

Police reports indicate someone tried to use credit and debits cards from the stolen wallets and bags.
